Dave's Daily Dump

Every year, the guys from the church do a series of hikes, mostly for the purpose of training for a larger hike. This year, there are no large hikes planned, but they started off with a doozy... to the peak of San Bernardino Peak.

The hike was about 16 miles round trip and about 4700 feet of elevation gain. It was a little challenging, especially since there were some large spots of snow towards the top. But that just made it more fun! It took us about 10 hours to complete.

The trail was amazingly maintained. A nice even ascend, very clean and wide. Towards the top there was some minor overgrowth, but no big deal. And the views... oh man, the views were incredible. From the top, you can see Big Bear Lake, San Gorgonio Peak, Santiago Peak and the entire IE. I took some pictures with my camera phone, but they're not as clear.

Five of us started, but only Kevin and I made it. There were some flared up injuries and time constraints that kept the others from bagging the peak.

It was a great day with great views and great company.

X ARM

by David Guido
My brother-in-law invited me to this "new sport", explaining it something like "arm wrestling, with their hands strapped together and their belts hooked to the arm wrestling table, but they get to punch and kick each other!" So of course, I'm like, "I'm in!"

Here are a few photos... photo 1, photo 2, photo 3

We show up to the American Sports University in San Bernardino and take a seat in this small, closed off area of the gym. There's an arm wrestling table up on stage with a big "X ARM" logo behind it. Camera crews from RipeTV.com were setting up, so expect the whole thing to be on their website, and possibly TV, anytime soon.

The first fight consisted of Ivan Gatoloai giving Rick Cheek a hammer fist to the top of his head, cutting it open, knocking him out, and leaving him dangling from the table. My jaw dropped.

James Cordney (Gladiator Challenge champion for 205 class) gave everyone a great show the day before by kicking his opponent in the head 3 times to knock him out. Today he broke his hand on Andy Flennay's face, to knock him out in 4 seconds with 9 punches, claiming the "fasted knockout in X ARM's history".

Luckily, I caught it all on my cell phone...

[Video temporarily removed until it airs on TV]

Even though the sport is literally 2 days old, it was put together very well and was definitely fun to watch. But watching Cheek dangling from the table hook gave me a creepy feeling. I think some kind of quick-release would help. And oh yeah... Ring card girls... they definitely need ring card girls!

Frisbee Golf at El Dorado

by David Guido
Kicked some D-Golf ass at El Dorado. I shot my best game ever, coming in at 4 over par.

D-Golf and Hiking

by David Guido
Play D-Golf at La Mirada with the boys.

Went for a little hike in Silverado Canyon with Tricia. We've been trying to find fun, out-doorsy things to do together. So far it's hiking, camping and tennis.

We later watched Snatch, a DVD I bought used at Blockbuster for cheap. Very funny movie! Especially when the dog swallows the squeaky toy... That's just too much!

Maple Springs

by David Guido
Rode the Maple Springs Trail (Mount Modjeska) up to the Main Divide (8 miles up, 3500 ft) this morning with Ian, Bob, Steve and Eric. This was my second time up this trail and I felt great. Having more people to chat with really helped. I thought we were only 2/3 the way up when I saw the Main Divide... What a great feeling. I wanted to keep going to the top (another 1000 feet), but nobody else wanted to.

In the evening, we went to the Rodeo at the Arrowhead Pond. 1st time at a rodeo and I thought it was pretty cool. I was just too damned tired to enjoy it.

Football and Frisbee Golf

by David Guido
We lost in Fantasy Football. Man were we close! The last friggin game, when we needed him the most, our star-player Shaun Alexander gets benched because the original starter, Ricky Watters, suddenly feels better. That prick! Well, the good part about this is that we just barely lost to Tricia's brother Mitchell, who knows A LOT about football, and I know absolutely nothing. So I actually did pretty damned good this year. You're going down next year Mitchell!

I also played a quick round of frisbee golf after work with Ian and I whooped him bad. He was up most of the game by 4 strokes and I came back on the back-9 and beat him by one... in the dark. It was great!

What a Day

by David Guido
Wow, what a day! I woke up at 7:00am, which is just out of the question for me, especially on a Sunday. I then went to play Frisbee Golf with Ian. I'm actually getting into it, I even bought my own set of disks. I kicked his butt the first game, then we ran between holes on the second game and he kicked my butt. I must've hit every tree in that park in the second game.

I got home, worked out a little, then went to the Orange County Swap Meet with Tricia and Ryann. We couldn't find the vendor we were looking for that had the wedding favors we wanted. But we found a different guy, with these cool little candles already made, for super cheap! So we got them. Now I have to make the little tags and get some ribbon to wrap them up.

I also found a really cool desk there. It's made by Leda. The monitor actually goes underneath the glass desktop to give you more room. They say it's more 'ergonomic', we'll see. It's going to be very strange for a while since I've spent many years looking at the monitor right in front of me. Now, I'm looking down. We'll see how that goes.

We then went over to Gina's to pick up a big plant she gave us. We went home, I did a little gardening and fixed up all the plants with new soil and whatnot. Then I put together my new desk while Tricia and I watched The Matrix. Now that's a killer movie!

I ordered the Viper today for our wedding!!! Oh, you're gonna see some smoke alright.

We also had Monday Night Football at our house tonight... Good thing we cleaned up. It turned out to be a great night because my Fantasy Football team won again, and it depended on one of the players that was playing in tonights game. I usually don't care who wins, I just like to watch a good game, in any sport. But I was really getting into it. I mean, I was actually hoping that this other player would get hurt so that my player would pull ahead. Pretty scary huh?

Slept in today... I love to sleep in.

Tricia and I played a little tennis this morning. Then Ian and I took our women out on a special bike ride around Huntington Beach for Sweetest Day (Heather insists that we celebrate this lame-ass east coast holiday). I say it's a special bike ride because Ian and I are the ones that do all the pedaling. He has a tandum bike and the Rasticle, a red, black and green beach cruiser with an extra back seat on it... very cool. We had wine around sunset, ate sushi at a new place on Main Street, then went home and watched O Brother Where Art Thou. The movie was pretty good but the sound track was great. I just might go buy it.

Monday Night Football

by David Guido
It was probably the worst football game in NFL history. Both Washington and Dallas were 0 and 4.

Not much into football, I mean, I don't really have a favorite team or anything. I only root for the Browns because I grew up in Cleveland. However, we do participate in Fantasy Football and we're actually doing pretty well this year.

The best thing about having everyone over was that it forced us to finish unpacking, at least the front of the house. We still have the bedroom to do, and that should be about it. Hopefully we'll get it done this weekend.
