Siemens, headquartered in Berlin and Munich, is one of the world’s largest electrical engineering and electronics companies. With sales of over €75 Billion in 2004, Siemens provides innovative technologies and comprehensive know-how to benefit customers in 190 countries. Founded more than 150 years ago, the company is active in the areas of Information and Communications, Automation and Control, Power, Transportation, Medical, and Lighting.

I was hired by Siemens as a consultant to design the user interface of their next-generation, web-based Alert Notification System, which is a set of tools that extend their current offering by enabling any user to configure, view and receive notifications for specific conditions.

Since this is a new application, they've decided that was a good opportunity to create a new look-and-feel. The next step is to get the rest of their application to look like the new one. Part of that process was the creation of a User Interface Design Specification to assist the developers when creating new screens and migrate the old application to the new-and-improved UI.

User Experience Design

The application consists of 4 main screens and a handful of supporting dialog boxes that I designed and programmed. This includes the HTML and javascript to handle the list selection and context menus.

I also lead a Heuristic Evaluation of the product before it was released, to ensure an easy-to-use, -navigate and -understand application.

Along with the overall look-and-feel of the product, I was also in charge of constructing the icons.

Here's a semi-functional prototype I created in the early stages of the design phase. Four years later, these pages were updated with simple style sheet changes when I designed the look and feel of their Target Management system.

Some other work includes giving their old product set a current look-and-feel, including giving the old Trender application a new face lift.
