Motorola, a Fortune 100 global communications leader with sales of over $30 Billion in 2004, provides seamless mobility products and solutions across broadband, embedded systems and wireless networks.

The Motorola Digital Video Management Solutions (DVMS) is a tool to help the police force manage, search, and review the video evidence files generated by the Motorola Mobile Digital Video Recorder (MDVR) Units. This client/server system is designed to automate most of the basic activities such as uploading and cataloging files, allowing the Commanding Officer/Supervisor to focus on reviewing and managing high priority content.

David Guido Design was asked to perform a Usability Evaluation and Design Review on version 1.0.0.3 of the Motorola DVMS software application.

Usability

I lead a Heuristic Evalution with two additional usability professionals and performed a nomenclature review with an actual police officer that represented their user base.

The goal of this evaluation was to analyze the product’s user interface in terms of aesthetics, usability, and intuitiveness, gather valuable observations and recommend potential improvements for the next release.

The final report describes the results of the evaluation, including many valuable suggestions to improve the usability of the product.
